O Elvas celebrates memorable victory after an heroic comeback

The city of Elvas is celebrating a remarkable victory after a heroic comeback against Varzim SC, securing a 2-1 win in Póvoa de Varzim during the 4th round of the Taça de Portugal. This achievement guarantees the Alentejo club a spot in the Round of 16, where they will face Vitória SC.

Heroic comeback on hostile ground

The match began with Varzim in control, taking advantage of a solid first half to open the scoring in the 29th minute with a goal by Luís Esteves. However, the halftime break brought a tactical transformation. Under the guidance of coach Pedro Hipólito, O Elvas returned more determined and organized, balancing the match.

Desmond Nketia equalized in the 56th minute following a precise assist from young talent Pedro Cotão, who was the standout performer of the game. Just 15 minutes later, in the 71st minute, Rúben Cardoso sealed the comeback, again assisted by Cotão. The victory sent Elvas fans into a frenzy. Cotão’s performance, marked by his assists and maturity, further confirmed his potential.

Inspiring leadership from Vincenzo Caci

The victory was celebrated as a historic milestone and emotionally dedicated to Vincenzo Caci, the president of the club’s SAD. Vincenzo Caci has been a cornerstone in the restructuring and professionalization of O Elvas, propelling the team to embrace greater challenges.

Looking ahead: A new challenge against Vitória SC

Following their triumph over Varzim, O Elvas will face Vitória SC from the Primeira Liga in the next round. Although the opposition is heavily favored, this victory fuels the Alentejo club’s confidence as they aim to keep their remarkable run alive.

The strength of the fans: unwavering support under torrential rain

Despite the heavy rain and the over 700 km journey, many blue and gold fans traveled to Póvoa de Varzim to support the team, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Coach Pedro Hipólito and the players expressed their gratitude to those who attended in person and to the fans who supported the match via television.

The club now calls for the same passion in the upcoming Campeonato de Portugal home match against Pêro Pinheiro and later during the Round of 16 fixture against Vitória SC. With this unity between the club and its supporters, O Elvas moves forward with confidence, continuing to dream big in both the Taça de Portugal and the Campeonato de Portugal campaigns.
